I should have remembered, we never could speak about the things that upset me. That’s the problem with drinking - you forget all the things you usually know. I should have remembered that time we were in Bangkok. I flew there over my spring break to help Him obtain a tourist visa to come to China when the student visa we had applied for fell through. Him was so anxious about the process and understandably so. When he had gone with all the proper documents to apply for the student visa weeks before, the Thailand worker at the Chinese visa processing center in Bangkok took one look at the invitation letter from the Chinese school and say, “Nope. We don’t accept this letter.” No reason given. Instead of taking a few deep breaths and calling me or the handler from the school, Him sulked away. No trying to solve the problem.
